Callipo was founded in Pizzo Calabro, Calabria in 1913 by Giacinto Callipo, one of the firsts in Italy to box the prized Mediterranean tuna, fished with the "fixed tuna" system. In 1926 the company obtained the Real Supplier official supplier patent.

Callipo carries out the processing, in all its phases, exclusively in Italy in its Maierato factory which covers an area of approximately 34,000 m², 9,700 of which are covered. The daily production capacity is about 300,000 boxes and 35,000 glass jars, for a total of about 5,200 tons per year.
